Tom:News/Volume 29

I very excited about a programming project I'm working on. I'm writing a python program to monitor the health of websites using a combination of Selenium, MySQL, lxml, logging and autologging, Crypto.Cipher, Splunk, and Chrome webdriver (with hooks for Firefox, IE, Opera, and Safari). I've coded the program so that it works in both Linux and Windows with no modification to any of the programs, libraries, or configuration files.

The program uses XML based configuration files as input into the program to test the health of each website. No background in python is required to create new website health checks XML files. Only minimum background in XML is necessary.

This is my first programming project in almost 38 years, as well as the first time I've ever programmed in python. I'm sure most python programmers would be appalled by my code, but I'm very happy with it.
